BULLET IN WOOD FROM TREVILIAN STATION MOUNTED ON DISPLAY BASE

$150.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 986-73

Nicely done display of a 4.50 x 1.25 inch piece of wood opened like a clam to reveal a fired .58 minie ball inside.

The item was made by splitting the wood and exposing the bullet. Then the section of wood was glued in place so the bullet cavity can be viewed along with the lower section of wood containing the bullet. The whole was then glued to a 5.50 x 5.25 inch beveled wooden base.

A label maker was used to print a label that reads “BATTLE OF TREVILIAN STATION / JUNE 1864.”

The bottom of the base has a pencil inscription that reads “MAY 1980 / TREVILIAN STATION” along with a notation as to the location of the find and the digger’s name.

The battle of Trevillian Station was fought on June 11-12, 1864 between Union cavalry under Phil Sheridan and Confederate cavalry under Wade Hampton and Fitzhugh Lee. Total Union casualties were 1,512 while the Confederates lost 813. It is considered one of the largest cavalry actions of the war.  [ad]
