This is an excavated bayonet in very good “dug” condition. A Model 1835/1842 socket bayonet that was altered to fit on a double barrel shotgun. This alteration is well done and consisted of shortening the socket and cutting a ¾” channel on the side. Most likely done at a Confederate arsenal. Measures 19 ¾” overall with an 18” blade.

Surface rust and pitting but solid condition with no flaking; uncoated. Recovered in central Virginia.  [jet]
