Excavated coat-sized button with a face that consists of a large block letter “I” on a plain field with border. Worn on Confederate infantry coats. Face with only a small portion of the tin back. No shank. The button face has a nice brown patina with dirt; uncleaned. Thin, rusty portion of the tin back remains around the perimeter on reverse. Shank and most of back is missing. Void remains filled with dirt.
