This is the private’s musket tool for the Pattern 1853 Enfield. The tool is in the shape of a “Y”.  The body of the tool was a hollow oil reservoir. A “wire” applicator was attached to a fluted thumbscrew which screwed in to the top. The bottom of this central piece had a recessed cone wrench. Located along the body was a cone prick. The arm had a screw driver blade on one end and was threaded on the other to hold a wiper.

In good “dug” condition. Cone pick and wiper gone. A rarely encountered accessory for the Enfield rifle.   [jet] [ph:m]
