Here is an original 4.52” solid shot. Used by both sides; fired from smoothbore guns. Shot rounds such as this were usually fired to ricochet from one target to another causing extensive damage. This ball is in “dug” condition with light pitting. It was coated and has reference marks in white paint. This ball is from the Beverly Dubose collection and these marks (2 / R) correspond with his collection list.

The Battle of Resaca was part of the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. The battle was waged in both Gordon and Whitfield counties, Georgia, May 13–15, 1864. It ended inconclusively with the Confederate Army retreating.  [jet] [ph:m]
