.31 caliber Walch revolver bullet. Cast lead bullet with one deep groove running around the mid-section.  Walch 10-shot pocket revolvers were made by New Haven Arms Company.  Approximately 3000 of these revolvers were made between 1860-1862. A .36 caliber Navy model was also made. These unusual pistols had an extra-long cylinder that held two loads in each chamber.  The deep groove in the ball contained lubricant to seal the chamber between the loads thus eliminating the danger of a chain-fire.

Bullet was recovered near Antietam and has good patina. It measures 0.329” x 0.45”.   [jet] [ph:L]
