Royal blue colored silk ribbon overlays a light blue colored silk ribbon. Gold lettering on royal blue ribbon reads, "SOUVENIR / McKITTRICK / MEXICO 1847-48. CIVIL WAR 1862-3". Center of ribbon features an image of Captain William H. McKittrick, who enlisted in the U.S. Army at the early age of 17 to serve in the Mexican War. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was among the first to volunteer, and went out as Captain of Co. C, 115th Regiment N.Y. Vols. He was killed on September 29, 1864 at the battle of Fort Gilmer, near Richmond, while leading his men in a gallant charge against enemy batteries.
Black lettering at the top of light blue ribbon reads, "IN MEMORIAM / He sleeps where he fell, 'mid the battle's roar, With his comrades true and brave, And his noble form we shall see no more, He rests in a hero's grave. He sleeps where the blest of our glorious dead, Were left on the sacred land; Where with daring deeds, ere his spirit fell, He led with bold command." Lower part has gold lettering that reads, "COMPANY C. 115th REGIMENT N.Y. VOLS. 10th ARMY CORPS REUNION 1891".
Ribbon measures 8.5" by 2.5". Gold gilt has worn in areas. Top section has separated from the remainder above the word, “SOUVENIR”, so the ribbon is now in 3 pieces. Some fraying and splitting is present at the top as well as a pin hole. [sl]
