Heavy brass medallion meas. approx. 2.50 inches across by ¼ inch thick.

The obverse has raised busts of General Ulysses S. Grant and General Robert E. Lee surrounded by “LET US HAVE PEACE – CONSCIOUSNESS OF DUTY FAITHFULLY PERFORMED.”

Reverse has a raised decoration of a spread-winged eagle perched on crossed palm branches above a US shield flanked by a Union and Confederate soldier. At bottom center is a closed book with “1861-1865” on the spine. All this is surrounded by “THE CIVIL WAR CENTENNIAL COMMISSION 1961-1965.”

The medallion is in good condition with a light patina on both sides with one or two very small spots of oxidation.

Item comes in the original box with interior packing and folded pamphlet describing the medallion and its sculpture.  [ad] [ph:L]
