The axe itself is in good condition. The iron head meas. approx. 7.50 inches across and is nickel plated. The edge is sharp and free of nicks. The point on the opposite end is also good. The nickel plating does show some minor surface wear.

The wooden handle meas. approx. 13.50 inches long and ends with a nickeled pommel. The wood shaft itself is painted black. The painted surface shows numerous minor dings, dents and scratches.

Item has no visible markings.

With the axe is the very rare leather carrying case and frog. The leather has a crazed surface and a frog that is curled. The handle of the axe slips down through the central loop of the frog and is held by a thong and brass finial. A leather hood fits over the point and then the opposite side wraps around the axe blade and is held in place by a thong and brass finial.

Again, there are no markings on the leather.

These were carried by fireman during parades and celebrations during the Nazi German era from 1933 to 1945.  [ad] [PH:L]
