CIVIL WAR-ERA “7-HOLE” FIFE

$135.00 ON HOLD

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 1179-1341

This wooden fife is a fine example of a musical wind instrument as used during the Civil War period.

In very good original condition, this fife measures 15” long and is made of ebony or mahogany. One end is stoppered with a removeable German silver cap and ferrule. The lower end features a half-inch German silver ferrule. A single blow hole and six evenly spaced finger holes are in a straight line. The last, and seventh, finger hole is positioned upon a raised circular platform. This “extra” hole allows for the “pinky finger” to change key.

This fife is turned and about midway there is a swell and raised ring. No maker’s marks.

Instrument is in very good condition with no cracks or splits. The surface is smooth with only light scuffing.  Musical wind instrument is a fine representative of a Civil War-era fife.  [jet][ph:L]
