RARE PEWTER PATTERN 1826 EAGLE BREAST PLATE WITH MAKER’S MARK

$1,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: R20766

This is one of the rarest Pattern 1826 Eagle breast plates you will find. The design on the face is the same as others but what makes this exceptional is that the plate is made of pewter instead of stamped brass.

Also, this plate differs in that there is no lead fill on the back. Being struck out of pewter the plate has sufficient weight without lead fill. Attached directly to the reverse is an iron arrangement of two hooks and a tongue. This attachment is rusted and one hook is broken.

Stamped directly into the pewter on the reverse is a maker’s mark. The reverse has numerous patches of discoloration from having been in the ground and one of these spots obscures the makers mark. The mark is in two lines, one above the other and the bottom word begins with the letter “N.”

The face has clear details with light scattered discoloration.
