This is a full standing view of a Union Civil War surgeon. He is wearing a dark colored double breasted frock coat with epaulets, lighter colored trousers, sword belt and forage cap with insignia. The two rows of buttons on the coat indicate a rank of Major or higher. Hanging from the belt is a Model 1840 medical sword.
Image is clear and contrast is good. Image is slightly narrower than the typical quarter plate.
Image comes housed in a full pressed paper embossed case which is in excellent condition. Case is lined in red velvet with an embossed design. Decorative brass mat surrounds the image.
Image comes displayed in a riker box along with a close-up photograph of the sword, which shows the wonderful detailing. Next to this photo is a sketch of the very same model sword, as well as a documentation of the image. [sm]
