A Paris: Chez Lefevre, Libraire, Rue de L’Epeon N.6, 1819. French language edition, five volumes in full leather. Gilt ruled spines and decorative design. Black leather title and author labels stamped in gilt. Each volume bears title page signature: “J.L. Chamberlain/ Bangor Theo.[logical], Sem.[inary]/ 1852”.

Following graduation from Bowdoin College, Chamberlain attended the Bangor, ME, Theological Seminary, before returning to Bowdoin as a professor, soon after to become Colonel of the 20th Maine, which he would lead to glory at Gettysburg, in defense of Little Round Top, receiving a Congressional Medal of Honor.
