Here is an example of a cross-section of the US 12 lb. Bormann Case-shot Shell. Various sized case-shot balls can be seen as well as the surrounding mustard-yellow matrix. The center-indented crevice depicts the bursting charge cavity. The US Bormann time fuse plug and underplug are intact. Outside of shell has been shellacked for preservation and exhibits a deep brown shiny surface with patchy areas. Shell is accompanied by a wooden base that is labeled "12 LB. BORMAN CASE-SHOT" on a black metal plaque.
