By Samuel Clarke Farrar. Published Under the Auspices of the Twenty-Second Ringgold Cavalry association, Pittsburgh, PA, 1911. 538pp., portraits, ills., regimental roster. Green glazed cloth, measuring 9.25 x 6.5”, with gilt cover & spine lettering. Very slight cover wear. Else near mint.
The Ringgold Company of cavalry hailed from Washington, PA, and was organized in June 1861. After which it served in the West Virginia Cheat Mountain Campaign, and was soon after combined with a company of Washington, PA, cavalry, with others and was designated Ringgold’s Battalion. This unit saw considerable action, including the Gettysburg Campaign. Later recruiting saw the 185th PA. Vols. converted to cavalry service and combine with the Ringgolds to from the 22nd PA Cavalry in January 1864. This new unit participated in the Battle of New Market and was active in Sheridan’s 1864 Valley Campaign, including the the Battle of Cedar Creek. During service the Ringgold Battalion lost 4 men killed and mortally wounded and 19 by disease for a total of 22. The 22nd Regiment itself lost 34 men killed and mortally wounded and 96 by disease for a total of 130.
