Leather bound book entitled “RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR DRILL, SABRE EXERCISE, EQUITATION, FORMATION AND FIELD MOVEMENTS OF CAVALRY.” The volume is “ILLUSTRATED WITH PLATES. BEING A THIRD EDITION OF CAVALRY DISCIPLINE.” Written by “E. HOYT, ESQ. / Brigade Major and Inpector in the Militia of Massachusetts.” “REVISED, CORRECTED AND ENLARGED BY THE AUTHOR.” Printed and published by Ansel Phelps of Greenfield, Mass.
The original Discipline for the Cavalry was written in 1793 by E. (Epaphras) Hoyt. Revised in 1813, corrected and enlarged in 1816.
The book still has a good tight binding. The covers are worn but in good condition. The book runs approx. 255 pages. One of the index pages is torn. The plates at the back are very worn and two are missing pieces. Also the title page is worn. Despite the missing pieces all the text looks to be present.
