The Pennsylvania-Kentucky Rifle by Henry J. Kauffman, published in 1960 by the Stackpole Company. Hard cover with original dust jacket; 376 pages including glossary, bibliography, and index. Cover measures approximately 11 ¼ by 8 ¾ inches. Black and white photographs and illustrations. Condition of book good considering age; cover shows slight wear, pages slight discoloration with a small stain on the bottom right corner of the very first page. This page also has an inscription to the original owner, presumably written by friends who gifted the book. The dust jacket is in comparatively poor condition with multiple tears all over, some discoloration, some small stains inside, and tape along the front edge where the flap was once torn off.
Read about the rifle that was made in America by gunsmiths who migrated to Lancaster Co., Pa., from central Europe in the first half of the 18th century. This intensive study and exacting research by Kauffman has brought to light a tremendous amount of information on America's first great rifle. This book has an extensive listing of gunsmiths and the stylized work of the makers. Various rifles are identified with many photos and sketches and documentary data.
