In green glazed cloth, 9.25 x 6.25”, w/front cover 2nd Corps imprint, & gilt cover and spine lettering. Hancock frontispiece image exhibits light water-staining. Outer extremities exhibits light wear and rubbing. Else Vg.

Written by Hancock’s wife Mira, shortly after his death, this volume is one of the seven Union memoirs published by Mark Twain’s publishing company in the late 1880s. Others of this set, in their distinctive green covers, include Grant’s memoirs, Sherman’s, Sheridan’s, and George Custer’s LIFE ON THE PLAINS. This volume by Mira Hancock contains the only written reference to the famous farewell party in California before the outbreak of war, where Lewis Armistead s an emotional farewell to his friend Hancock.
