First edition two-volume set published in 1885 is considered to be one of the most important military biographies of all time.

The Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant is Grant's autobiography, focusing mainly on his military career during the Mexican-American War and the Civil War, written as Grant was dying of cancer in 1885. Grant died just five days after the manuscript was turned over to the publisher, having never lived to see the work in book form, let alone inscribe any copies of it. The two-volume set was published by Mark Twain shortly after Grant's death.

Hard cover books feature the fold-out of General Buckner's Dispatch in volume one and Gen. Robert E. Lee's surrender in volume two. Both volumes feature lithographs of Grant and his facsimile signature. Binding is tight on both, with no pages missing. Some wear in areas and corners.  [sl]

Shipping cost will be the same for Priority Mail or UPS Ground due to the weight of these volumes (nearly 6 lbs).
