The full title of this volume is “ANNALS OF THE FIFTY-SEVENTH INDIANA VOLUNTEERS. MARCHES, BATTLES AND INCIDENTS OF ARMY LIFE BY A MEMBER OF THE REGIMENT.”
The volume meas. approx. 5.50 x 8.00 inches and runs 374 pages with roster. Brown cloth covers are wrapped in Mylar and are in nice condition. Title is clearly embossed in gold on the spine. Interior is very clean.
The book is more a memoir than a regimental history. The author, Asbury L. Kerwood served as a Sergeant in Company F of the regiment. He enlisted in December of 1861 and served through the war being mustered out in February 1865.
The 57th took part in the battles of Shiloh, Stones River, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, New Hope Church, Dallas, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Jonesboro, Franklin and Nashville.
The regiment lost 275 officers and men killed and died of wounds and disease.
A handsome volume about a hard fought western regiment. [ad]
