Green hard covered manual with an embossed eagle on the both front and back covers. In gold on the spine is “(BY AUTHORITY OF THE WAR DEPARTMENT MAY 1863) U.S. INFANTRY & RIFLE TACTICS” The bottom of the spine has a spread-winged eagle on a US shield.
The volume runs approximately 450 pages with advertisements for other military books on the back few pages. The manual covers the School of the Soldier, the School of the Company and the School of the Battalion. There are numerous illustrations and fold-out plates. The edges of some plates are worn; others are heavily wrinkled. Interior has some light staining on various pages throughout but is mostly clean. Binding remains strong. [jet]
