Volume is hardbound in green cloth with an embossed eagle perched on a patriotic shield crowned in stars on both the front and back covers. Spine has title “FIELD MANUAL FOR BATTALION DRILL” lightly stamped in gold at top. Spine is loose on one side but the rest of the book is well bound. Covers show light wear on edges and corners.
The book meas. approx. 3.75 x 5.25 inches and runs 100 pages and has numerous diagrams.
Title page reads “THE FIELD MANUAL FOR BATALION DRILL CONTAINING EXERCISES AND MANEUVRES IN THE SCHOOL OF THE BATTALION ARRANGED IN A TABULAR FORM FOR THE USE OF OFFICERS OF THE U.S. INFANTRY: TRANSLATED , AND ADAPTED TO THE U.S. INFANTRY TACTICS, FROM THE LATEST FRENCH AUTHORITIES, BY CAPT. HENRY COPPEE, LATE INSTRUCTOR IN THE U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT.” Volume was published by J. B. LIPPINCOTT & CO. Philadelphia in 1862.
This is a readable copy and mostly clean on the interior with just some darkening to the page edges from age and use. [ad]
