This uniform artifact is a wonderful non-excavated example of a two-piece Confederate 'local' brass button as worn by many North Carolina soldiers. The circular, 23-mm, brass device exhibits the Great Seal of North Carolina. Has the inscription "NORTH CAROLINA" on the upper rim. Figures 'Lady Liberty' and 'Plenty' are worn down from use. Retains a few spots of original gold gilt on the face. No pushes or holes in this button that is classified as an NC 8D in A. H. Albert's reference volume. Back side is unmarked and strongly retains its shank. RV15. This non-dug North Carolina State seal button would make a wonderful addition to any Civil War button display or to a North Carolina focused collection.
