This is a good non-dug example of a Federal two-piece brass button as worn on many Vermont State soldiers’ uniforms. This coat-size button is of two-piece construction with a border. Retains over 80% of original gold gilt on the face.  Button face is push-free.  23 mm. Button exhibits the head of a stag above a shield device with ribbon below, “VERMONT” and thirteen encircling stars around the perimeter, all on a lined field.  Back has a straight shank. Clear backmark of “SCOVILL MF’G CO. / WATERBURY”. Tice # VT230A5.  This State of Vermont brass uniform button makes an excellent addition to any Civil War button display or Vermont-focused collection.   [jet]
