Made of thin sheet brass and hinged at the top.  The two halves are slotted to close around the button shank.  This enabled soldiers to polish their uniform buttons without soiling their uniforms.  Bottom on one side is stamped “N.S. MEYER INC. / NEW YORK / PATENT PENDING”.  [jet]
