Button depicts the eagle with "R" in the shield, intended for officers of riflemen units, who were skilled marksmen; they eventually evolved into modern sharpshooters. Partially worn BM: "SCOVILL MF'G CO. / (dot) WATERBURY. (dot) " dm between rings of dots. Darkened gilt patina shows wear. Shank present & straight. Albert's RF17/19, Tice's RF212/215A43.
