Various size (13 Coat & 9 Cuff) excavated pewter/ tombac & brass plain face civilian clothing buttons. Three are of brass and have their shanks; one is back marked with “Double Gilt No 2”. One pewter/ tombac type missing its shank. All specimens show ground action wear and oxidation. These types of buttons were also worn on pre-Civil War military militia uniforms and as make-do’s on Confederate uniforms in the field. Unfortunately, these examples come to us without provenance.
