This pre-printed document is filled out in ink. The reverse of the document states that it is an “ABSTRACT OF PAYMENT” for John G. Turpin Captain and Assistant Commissary and Sustenance of the 22nd Virginia Battalion. Document meas. approx. 10.75 inches x 8.50 inches and is dated February 10, 1864. All the printing and ink writing are clear and legible. Document has two vertical fold lines and some light to moderate chipping along the bottom edge; has become separated along approx. half of the left vertical fold.

The 22nd Virginia Battalion was part of Hill’s Corps in the Army of Northern Virginia.
