PATRIOTIC ENVELOPE

$20.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: L5769B

Patriotic letter envelope from the Civil War.  Unused.  Measures 3” x 5 ½”.  Image on left edge of an officer supporting another man on a plank over cotton bails. One man is reaching for an eagle. Caption reads “CATCH HIM  CATCH HIM  HA  HA  HA”.  Printed in black ink.

Between the commerce generated by the war and the correspondence between soldiers and their families, the use of the postal system boomed. One of the curious effects of its increased popularity was the production of these patriotic envelopes, a daily reminder of the division from which the country suffered.  [jet]
