Gen. Wheeler was a prominent western theater Confederate cavalry commander who was later reinstated to U.S. service, serving as a major general in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Desertion was a serious problem for any rebel cavalry commander, from beginning to end. This general order was written in the period between the Battle of Murfreesboro and the Sieges of Port Hudson and Vicksburg. Scarce. A superb cavalry collectible.
