Document is a receipt for goods delivered by a train of ten wagons to Camp Collins, Colorado on September 29, 1865. Wagons were carrying bacon and flour. Paper is a pre-printed U.S. Army form. Fold marks are present with very small tears at the edges. Paper has yellowed with age with a few small chips and pin holes. Ink is completely legible. Measures 8” x 12 ½”.

The goods were received from Captain P.T. Turnley; Parmenas Taylor Turnley was an 1846 graduate of West Point (his roommate was Stonewall Jackson). He was commissioned into the US Army Quartermaster’s Dept. as Captain & Asst. QM. He was retired on 9/17/65.  Born in Tennessee, he died in 1911 in Illinois at the age of 89 and is buried in Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum.
