As the Civil War dragged on, patriotic songs such as this became very popular. This song sheet was published in 1863 by J.F. Gould of Philadelphia. Music by M.G. Bisbee.

Introduction to song tells how a mortally wounded young soldier was waiting for his mother to arrive to see him. First verse of song reads, “Is that Mother bending over me, As she sang my cradle hymn kneeling there in tears before me, Say, my sight is growing dim. Saviour breathe on me thy blessing, Angels waft me to thy rest, Where no more the din of battle, shall disturb the patriots breast. Where no more the din of battle, Shall disturb the patriots breast.” Five verses total.

Measures 10 ¼” x 13 ¼”. 6 pages. Yellowing has occurred, with areas of spotting. Stitching has come loose at the bottom. Shows chipping and small tears at left side.  [sl]
