Pre-printed form filled out in ink, measures 6 ½” x 3 ¾”. “OFFICE OF ASSISTANT QUARTERMASTER, / Murfreesboro Tennessee April 26 1865. / Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad: / Pass Lieut Arthur L. Conger / 115 O. V. I. / from Murfreesboro, Tenn., to Nashville Tennessee”.  Signed by S. McKean Laporte, Captain and Assistant Quartermaster.

Arthur L. Conger was a 24 year old teacher when he enlisted as a Private on 7/24/62. On 9/18/62 he mustered into Co. G, 115th Ohio. Promoted to 1st Lieut. 8/21/62. Detached 11/20/62, on Gen. Ammon’s staff as Act. Asst. Adjt. General; assigned to duty as Provost Marshall of Newport, KY; detached 6/18/65 as Asst. Inspector of RR Defenses. Mustered out on 6/22/65 at Murphreesboro, TN. Had subsequent service as Colonel in the 8th Ohio National Guard.  Following the war he lived in Akron, OH.

In 1870 he became a director with Whitman & Miles Manufacturing Co. When Whitman and Barnes began in 1877, Conger became president. He later became president of Akron Steam Forge Co. and of some various plate-glass companies in Indiana. Mr. Conger was also involved in several railroad companies. For a time, he was elected Summit County Treasurer. His wife, Emily would serve the post of Deputy County Treasurer under him. He died in 1899 after a series of strokes.   [ld]
