Affidavit for Wife, requesting State of Wisconsin financial aid for Private John J. Bean of Company D, 37^th Wisconsin Infantry.  Signed by Mrs. Betsey Bean and dated May 1^st 1865.  Includes 5 cent revenue stamp and a written statement from the acting assistant surgeon of the Camp Randall (Wisconsin) hospital, attesting to Private Bean’s hospitalization.  Pages are twice signed by the Dane County justice of the peace.  Private Bean enlisted in the 37^th WI on August 30^th, 1864.  He was mustered out two days after the affidavit was signed, on May 3^rd, 1865.  Bean later lived in Nebraska and was a member of GAR Post #25 in Lincoln, NE.  Pages are in excellent condition, crisp printing and ink throughout.  [JC]
