Bounty document, dated February 18th 1867 for Francis W. Edwards of Washington, D.C. A fine condition document with bold and clear ink writing. Paymaster J. W. Nicholls writes to Edwards with his discharge and a check for $100 as final settlement of his bounty. Document is signed at the bottom by Edwards with a note of acknowledgement.
The American Civil War Database lists a Francis W. Edwards as a veteran of the 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery who was wounded at Spotsylvania and subsequently lost his right leg. Edwards died in Washington, D.C. in 1900. [JC]
