The Confederate Government of Wythe County, Virginia issued this allotment check, numbered 122 on the back and dated Jan. 11, 1864 to Sarah Creagger in the amount of four dollars for the family of C.R. Creagger, a soldier in the 45th Virginia Infantry. Signed by M.S. Steffy Comr (Commander) 6th District. Countersigned on the back by “Sidney Catron [?], His/Her [?] Mark.
C. [Calvin] R. Creager was in company B, 45th Virginia. He received his enlistment bounty on 4/20/62. Captured at Lewisburg on 5/23/62 and held at Camp Chase. Exchanged on 8/25/62. He died at Lewisburg on 9/13/62 from “Camp Fever”. Described as age 26, 6’1” tall with black hair and grey eyes. [ld]
