Ink on 7 ¾” x 5 ¾” blue lined paper. Document lists 36 blankets at $600, issued to Captain Fleming Saunders, AQM (Acting Quartermaster) of the 42nd Virginia Infantry, “at camp”, Dec. 12, 1862. Signed by Major James Bruce, Quartermaster, 2nd Brigade, 1st Division of the Confederate Army. This brigade was commanded by Brig. Gen. John R. Jones, formerly Lt. Col. Of the 33rd Virginia Infantry.

The 42nd VA was raised in Campbell County and saw some of the heaviest fighting in the war. They were at 2nd Manassas, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Gettysburg, and The Wilderness. They were almost decimated at Spotsylvania where they lost 5 killed, 11 wounded and 210 captured in the Union assault on the Mule Shoe Salient on May 10th and 12th.  [ld]
