Ink on 7 ¾” x 5 ¾” blue lined paper. Document lists 36 blankets at $600, issued to Captain Fleming Saunders, AQM (Acting Quartermaster) of the 42^nd Virginia Infantry, “at camp”, Dec. 12, 1862. Signed by Major James Bruce, Quartermaster, 2^nd Brigade, 1^st Division of the Confederate Army. This brigade was commanded by Brig. Gen. John R. Jones, formerly Lt. Col. Of the 33^rd Virginia Infantry.

The 42^nd VA was raised in Campbell County and saw some of the heaviest fighting in the war. They were at 2^nd Manassas, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Gettysburg, and The Wilderness. They were almost decimated at Spotsylvania where they lost 5 killed, 11 wounded and 210 captured in the Union assault on the Mule Shoe Salient on May 10^th and 12^th.  [ld]
