Pre-printed form, dated 2/26/1862. 4pp, pre-printed gray from. From First Regiment VA. Arty, stationed at Miner’s Farm, signed by W.R. Garrett, Capt., for "16 sets of lead harness". Approved by Henry Coalter Cabell, Lt. Col. Commanding. Exhibits fold marks & slight wear along fold-lines. Else VG.
William Robinson Garrett enlisted as a private into the 32nd VA. Infantry on 4/15/1861. He was commissioned as Captain into "F" Co. VA 1st Light Artillery on 5/20/1861, and also saw service with Co. "B", 11th TN Cavalry. Henry Coalter Cabell was commissioned into "B" Co., 38th Battn Heavy Artillery, and transferred to the VA 1st Light Artillery on 9/23/1861. He was promoted to Lt. Col. On 9/12//1861, and to Colonel on 7/29/1862. He served as McLaw’s Division Chief of Artillery for most of the war, and took the Federal oath of allegiance in Richmond on 7/25/1865.
