Lee & Walker specialized in the patriotic songs, and the front cover lists seventy two of their “National and Patriotic Songs, Ballads, &c, Arranged for piano.” Of which “Tread Lightly Where Hero’s Tread” is listed as No. 45.
First Verse:
“Tread lightly here! This lonely grave,
is now the resting place of one,
who fought his country’s flag to save,
and fell with Freedom’s armor on!
Tread lightly then the hero now sleeps
the unbroken sleep of death,
With laurels on his noble brow
then speak his name with loyal breath.”
