This image is inspired by Matthew Brady’s famous portrait of President Lincoln reading to Tad. Portrait shows the President and his wife Mary seated, while their two remaining sons, Robert and Tad stand close to their parents. Shown in the framed portrait on the wall to the right of the family, is recently deceased Willie, who passed away on February 20, 1862. Below image, markings read, “LINCOLN FAMILY / PAINTED BY F. SCHELL / PUBLISHED BY JOHN DAINTY 31 S. 6
TH ST. PHILADELPHIA / ENGD. BY A.B. WALTER”.
Oval frame is painted gold, which has worn in areas. Measures 8 ¾” by 10 ¾”. Wire is present on reverse for hanging. [SL]
