Office of "The Iron Platform," New York, October 6, 1862, to F.W. Hughes, Chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee of Pennsylvania. 2 pages, measuring 16.5 x 10.5". Exhibits light soiling and wrinkling, plus fold-marks neatly reinforced with clear archival tape. Else VG plus.

Though this broadsheet is addressed to the Democratic central committee of Pennsylvania, it was issued in support of Marcus Ward, the Republican candidate for Governor of New Jersey, and Orestes Brownson, New Jersey Republican congressional candidate. [Both were defeated, though Ward would later be elected Governor of New Jersey in 1866] The text of concentrates primarily on the issue of slavery and preservation of the Union, and supports "the gradual, peaceful, and profitable extinction of slavery, with the consent of the people….and without discord, bloodshed, or disunion."
