Double-sided matted against white card, in black wooden frame measuring 18.5 x 14". Brass plaque measuring 5.5 x 2.5", w/ following inscription: "Poster advertising Company helping Civil War Soldiers with claims against the Government. Note on reverse from firm's owner to Claimant Dated December 3, 1863."
Broadsheet advertises assistance in military claims for pension for full disability, Bounty and Back Pay, Officers' Arrears of Pay, and Horses Lost or Stolen in the Service.
Reverse side note reads as follows: "Springfield, Ill/ Dec. 3 1863./ Capt. Samuel Estile/ Athens/ Menard County Co. Ill./ Dear Sir: Your favor of the 29 inst. is at hand. Please send us the order you received accepting your resignation and any papers in reference to your accounts as Capt. of Co. and state whether you have settled your clothing and ordnance accounts & send us all papers in regard to them which you have with full statements of facts in regard to these accounts and we will then be able to inform you what will have to be done. Write to me & we will do all that can be done for you. Yours, Ron Thompson."
