8 pp., 22 x 15”, six columns. Featuring a front page map of Confederate Fort Morgan, located at the mouth of Mobile Bay, Alabama. On August 5th, Farragut’s fleet had swept by Ft. Morgan into Mobile Bay. This issue of the New York Herald announces the reduction of the Fort on August 23rd. Story headlines: “FARRAGUT. GLORIOUS NEWS! Capture of Ft. Morgan! Sketch of Rebel General Page. General Maury Fortifying Mobile!” Also contains news of Sheridan in the Shenandoah Valley—“SHERIDAN. The Rebels Falling Back from the Front of Our Forces. Early Supposed to be Retreating from the Shenandoah Valley.” Exhibits fold-line, slight yellowing of margins, and light chipping of upper left hand corner. Else VG. Solid CW newspaper collectible.
