Cover illustrations features portrait illustrations of General Prentiss and Brigadier-General Williams, and “The Departure of General Lyon From Boonville, Missouri, for the Arkansas Border”, w/ story of the following page. [Lyon’s command was marching off to the Battle of Wilson’s Creek, which would conclude with his death in a Union defeat. Interior illustrations include “The Battle of Rich Mountain, Virginia, July 13, 1861” and “Fourth of July at Camp Hamilton Near Fortress MonRoe,” and “Louisiana Zouaves In Guard House at Fortress Monroe.” Rear page features montage of hilarious cartoons, titled: “How “The Southerner Commissioner” tried to Mould Public Opinion in England.”

Exhibits tiny mounting dots and light chipping along left margin, w/slight soiling of lower right corner. Else VG plus, smooth and tight. Solid early-war issue with gobs of great illustrations. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing.
