East Tennessee Union men plotted to sabotage railroad bridges to prevent the passage of Confederate supplies to Virginia, in conjunction with Union troops promised to join and support them. Subsequently, Fry and five others burned a bridge, were captured and hung, with no show of the promised support.] Interior illustrations include full page action depiction of “The Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas—The Final Advance of Our Troops, March 8, 1862.” A magnificent center-fold contains two across-the-page split level illustrations: [1] “Major General McClelland , Major-general McDowell, and Staffs Escorted By The Fifth Cavalry, Crossing Bull Run at Blackburn’s Ford,” [2] “Bridge Over Bull Run, Near Blackburn’s Ford, Burned By The Rebels” / “Evacuation and Firing of Manassas Junction By the Rebels.”
