Front cover features portrait sketch of Lieutenant Braine, U.S.N.—Commanding the “Monticello”, and a dramatic illustration of “A Night Reconnaissance On the Potomac.” Interior illustrations include a full page panoramic view of “The “Monticello” Shelling the Rebels Near Hatteras, October 5, 1861.” Also a naval double page spread of [1] “Our New Gunboats”, and [2] “Merchant Steamers Converted Into Gun-Boats”. Plus and extremely striking rear cover cartoon of “Jeff Davis Reaping the Harvest.”

Exhibits mounting dots and light chipping along left margin, as well as slight soiling of lower right corner. Else near fine, w/smooth cover. Solid issue. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing.
