Vol. IX—No. 440. 16 pp. [337-352], four columns, with numerous stories, illustrations and cartoons. Front cover features “Check-Mate”, a cartoon illustration of the “C.S.A.” playing chess with“Uncle Sam” and losing. Also a satiric story treating “The High toned Ladies of Richmond” and their fanciful air of insolence toward victorious Yankees. Interior illustrations include sketches of “Paroling Rebel Prisoners in Greensboro”, and “Richmond Ladies Going To Receive Government Rations.” Plus much commentary concerning the Lincoln conspiracy trial with magnificent centerfold sketch of “The Court-Room at the Old Penitentiary, Washington, During the Trial of the Conspirators.”
Exhibits mounting dots and light chipping along left margin. Front and rear covers detached. Else VG, w/smooth front cover. Still a superb issue, despite the detached covers, and is adequately protected in plastic sheath, w/white card backing.
