Front cover features full page illustrations by noted artist Winslow Homer—“Rebels Outside Their Works At Yorktown Reconnoitering with Dark Lanterns”. Interior illustrations include: panoramic view of “The Union Cavalry and Artillery Starting in Pursuit of the Rebels Up the Yorktown Turnpike.” Also a depiction of the “Charge of the First Massachusetts Regiment On A Rebel Rifle Pit Near Yorktown.” Plus a hilarious sketch of “Pickets Conversing Before Yorktown”—[sketched by an artist of the Vermont Brigade.] Along with portrait sketch/story on Admiral Farragut and an illustration of “The United States Steamer “Hartford,” Commodore Farragut’s Flagship, Which Led the Squadron Up the Mississippi.”
