Pope and lengthy commentary on the activities of his Army of Virginia then in action against Confederate troops under Stonewall Jackson—i.e. the Battles of Cedar Creek & 2nd Bull Run. [Although this issue went into print after these battles had been decided in the Confederate’s favor, at the time the issue was being collected and going into print, the final outcomes of these fights were not entirely clear.] Interior illustrations include sketches of Manassas Junction, Centreville and the “Skirmish at Freeman’s Ford, VA, Aug. 27, 1862. Also a spectacular double page spread of “Our New Iron-Clad Navy—From Mathematical Drawings [11 plus ships]. Plus an interesting rear page cartoon treating the Confederacy’s Indian allies in the Trans-Miss. Theater.
Exhibits mounting dots on left cover margin, plus very slight yellowing along lower cover margin. Else VG plus, with smooth, handsome cover. Solid collectible. In protective sleeve w/white card margin. [JP]
