VOL. VI—NO. 292. 16pp. [481-496]. This issue features a cover lithograph of the canal being dug by “contraband” labor opposite Vicksburg during the summer of 1862. Complemented by an interior panoramic sketch of Vicksburg seen from the river. The other major lithographic theme of this issue is the summer action along the James River near Richmond. Most prominent is a double illustration---[“The Army of the Potomac—General McClellan arriving on the bank of the James River”/ “Transports landing reinforcements and stores at Harrison’s Landing, on the James River”. Along with illustrations of the famed “California Joe” of the Berdan Sharpshooters, and a flag presentation to the 13th Connecticut Vols. by the loyal ladies of New Orleans. This issue is slightly yellowed with detached cover page. Else near pristine. Excellent war-time HW collectible.
